The tetracycline (tet)-regulated expression system permits the inducible overexpression of protein-coding gene. Protein expression is commonly achieved by crossing mice carrying a TRE-promoter-driven transgene with mice carrying a tet transactivator transgene, resulting in progeny that carry both genetic components.
